“Setting #goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” ~ Tony Robbins
As we come to the end of 2018, do you recall what your resolutions were this past year? Go ahead, take your time. For those of you that do remember your resolutions, how successful were you in accomplishing them? According to one survey, only 9% of people who make New Year’s resolutions felt they were successful in achieving their goals. I will say, I am not part of that 9%!
But, in 2019 I am committing to being one of the few that did achieve my goals. Or at least put myself in a much better place just by making progress to those goals!
The biggest step is always the first one. And if you keep waiting for tomorrow, it will never come. So take that first step now! Grab a piece of paper, your phone, wherever you prefer to write down your notes and begin your journey to achieving your 2019 resolutions and goals.
To help create your goal(s), I believe the best place to start is CHART’s guiding principles. Keeping specific values in mind will help keep you on track.
- Learning – What is something you want to learn more about or an area you have always been interested in? Where can you push yourself to learn and expand your roll?
- Sharing – Share your goal with someone that will follow up on you. Accountability by a friend, co-worker, loved one, etc. will push you throughout the year!
- Growing – Ensure your resolutions not only push you, but also support your growth. If you see and feel growth, you are more likely to keep up the momentum!
- Caring – Make sure your goal relates to something you truly care about and want to achieve. It can be personal or professional. I suggest having one of each.
Kick off the new year by really thinking about your role and how you’d like it to evolve in the coming years. Take the time to determine what makes you happy in your current position and what you would like to change. How can you be a catalyst to improve things?
What changes do you need to make to work toward a promotion or transition to your next position? Advancing your career is a year-round process, but why not use the momentum of the new year to kick-start your success?
Cheers to Learning, Sharing, Growing & Caring in 2019!
