Learning is the Only Future-proof Skill

I feel fortunate to be in a profession in which I know we are doing something very special, helping people learn, develop, grow, and achieve their professional and personal goals. It’s pretty cool that you can align making a difference in the lives of others with business objectives (this is my kind of Venn diagram!). As I reflect on the past year and gear up for the next, I’m very aware that we’re not immune to an environment (and industry) that is rapidly changing.

The good news for us is that learning is the only future-proof skill. As we create learning objectives with each module, program, LTO launch, and so on, I recognize that we should also be including an objective on teaching our teams to adapt. Our ability to rethink and reshape our approach is something that will always be valuable. Continuous learning fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Individuals who actively engage in learning are better equipped to analyze complex situations, make informed decisions, and adapt to unforeseen challenges.

We’ve seen over the last few years how quickly certain skills can become obsolete. As we transition to a skills-based approach within our organizations, individuals who embrace continuous learning are better equipped to adapt and remain relevant. Continuous learners are more likely to acquire the skills needed for emerging career opportunities, making them more marketable.

As we’re part of the hospitality industry, one thing that successful management team members possess is the know-how to be versatile with constant unique challenges. By teaching our teams how to adapt, we can encourage learning across various disciplines to help individuals develop a broader skill set, enabling them to tackle complex problems from multiple angles.

In a world characterized by change and uncertainty, let’s help our teams prioritize learning and teach them how to be agile and adaptable. For me personally, CHART provides the resources to stay on the cutting edge of L&D in the hospitality industry.
