WESTFIELD, NJ, July 23, 2020 – The Council of Hotel and Restaurant Trainers (CHART, www.chart.org) will be presenting its first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award to long-time member Sandi Spivey. The award will take place during CHART’s 50th Anniversary Virtual Celebration on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at 4:00 pm EST to honor Sandi as a role model trainer, leader, volunteer, and friend.
“Sandi’s impact on the world has been significant, not only as a CHART leader and past President, but as a survivor of Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC),” said Serah Morrissey, CHART President and Senior Director of Human Resources for the InterContinental Hotel MSP in Minneapolis, MN. “Sandi has been living with MBC since 1998, and only three people in the U.S. have survived longer than she has with this condition, which is currently being studied at University of Wisconsin. She has dedicated two decades to improving the knowledge levels and skill sets of patient advocates, and helping redefine hope in MBC patients and survivors. And all while raising a beautiful and amazing family.”
Spivey became a member of CHART in 1984 when she was a Training Manager for Carl Karcher Restaurants. She has the distinction of being the second female President of CHART, and has a legacy in helping grow and diversify the organization.
Over the years, Spivey held leadership roles with El Pollo Loco and Yum Brand’s Taco Bell – becoming recognized as a luminary in the hospitality training and development world. She is now a lifetime member of CHART.
Most recently, Spivey led a volunteer team to release a 14-course online learning program for the Susan G. Komen Advocates In Science organization. She's also hosting web-based Coffee Talks between patient advocates and researchers. She has published a liquid biopsy report that is online at cancer.gov, and maintains an inspirational blog at CatsNCancer.com.
“There is no single person in CHART’s history that better embodies our guiding principles of Learning, Sharing, Growing, and Caring,” said Morrissey. “We are incredibly fortunate to have Sandi in our lives as part of CHART.”
The CHART organization wishes a heartfelt congratulations to Sandi Spivey!
