Using Behavioral Assessments to Improve Communication and Reduce Conflict

Everyone has a different personality that influences how they behave in everyday life. Joleen Goronkin uses a tool called the DiSC® Model to identify these behavioral styles and help people understand themselves and others to create harmony in the workplace, increase communication effectiveness and reduce conflict.

We all encounter different personalities in our work and home lives everyday. Some of these personality differences are easy for us, and others not as easy. But if we can find a way to understand different behavioral styles, especially in the workplace, we go a long way towards harmony in the workplace and reducing conflict. My objectives in this presentation are to help you understand behavioral styles, to show you how to practice people reading techniques and to discuss strategies for reducing conflict.

A tool I use in my work is called the DiSC® Model, first described by William Moulton Marston in his 1928 book Emotions of Normal People.  In this book identified he what he called four “primary emotions” and associated behavioral responses, today known as Dominance (D), Influence (i), Steadiness (S), and Conscientiousness (C).
