CHART/NRAEF Scholarship Recipient Honored During 2002 Commitment To People Awards Gala

Westfield, NJ - The Council of Hotel and Restaurant Trainers (CHART) and the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation's (NRAEF) Hospitality Business AllianceSM (HBA)/ProStart� program presented Susan Summerhill with a $2,500 joint scholarship at the Commitment to People Awards Gala on Tuesday, August 13, 2002, the final evening of CHART's 64th semi-annual hospitality training conference in Montreal, Canada.
"We support enthusiastic and dedicated students like Susan who want to further their education in the industry," said TJ Schier, president of CHART and president and founder of Incentivize Solutions. "This scholarship is one way CHART supports the development of our future workforce."
"The NRAEF's HBA/ProStart program is proud to align itself with an organization like CHART," said Mary M. Adolf, president and chief operating officer of the NRAEF. "This joint scholarship reflects our similar goals of educating and training the foodservice industry."
"Now, I can go to the school of my choice," exclaimed Summerhill to a packed room at the 2002 Commitment to People Awards Gala (see photo). "Scholarships like the one I have received from the HBA and CHART have made college a reality."
Summerhill graduated from North Carroll High School in Westminster, Maryland this past May. She holds a 3.26 GPA on a 4.0 scale and has made the honor roll 15 out of 16 quarters. Through the ProStart Program, she has obtained internships at Aramark Sports and Leisure at Oriole Park at Camden yards. She will be attending Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island and hopes to work at Marriott part-time during the school year.
